I'm not big on dA journal entries, but I figure it's time to give a little update on my recent lack of activity on dA (not that anyone will care, I'm not a friend whore either so about 7 people are going to read this :P ). Looking over my gallery I'm perturbed with some of the work I've submitted, and I find myself asking why I ever submitted it in the first place. I think more than anything else I was looking to have a robust enough gallery to be able to give viewers a lot to come and look at, but in hindsight that's not been a good decision. Shots I never liked in the first place have made their way into my gallery, and now that the "honeymoon" phase of putting my art up on dA is over I find myself being a lot more critical of not only other peoples work but my own as well. It's true that you're your own worst critic; when I look at a good third of my gallery I think to myself "Did I really shoot that? Did I really not delete that? Did I really POST that?" So, the shots in my gallery that elicit such thoughts are going away, and I'm also telling myself that rather than be in a rush to get new content up so joe average comments on it and adds me to their friends list I am going to hold off and try to post only pieces that measure up to my expectations. I'm new to dA, but that doesn't mean I have to doom myself to posting only sub-standard art. The key for me is to shoot the shots as I envision them, and the ones that don't meet or exceed that vision need to not make it into my gallery.

I'd also love to branch out and go from just landscape and post-processing work into shooting people, but that's a whole other fight with the significant other that I'm not ready to get into yet :P In the meantime, however, if anyone out there does specialize in this I'd love to know what equipment you use; I think I'd prefer natural lighting, but as far as lenses, backdrops, etc. I'd love to hear what you like to use.
